Good (and bad) news about paid media
October 29th, 2009 Posted in New Techniques, Pay Per Click Advertising, Traffic, marketingThe other day we released our all new Traffic Evolution paid media course, and got a few emails from clients wondering if it’s right for them.
The biggest thing people want to know is whether the resources we give are really that responsive, and whether paid visitors convert as well as SEO and other free traffic sources, and the short answer is… sometimes.
You see, some of the vendors we recommend sell pop-ups. And while their systems are pretty targeted, pop-up traffic is not known for being that responsive. Which can be a problem, until you remember the starting cost is… just 1.5 cents a click!
Or take another resource we give that sells banners, text ads, and interstitials. This network generates traffic from a huge stable of B-level sites, personal blogs, small content pages, and other “less than perfect” sources.
And while conversion is often lower than AdWords, their pricing is as much as 75% less, and they’ll let you run ads in ways that Google won’t, like promote health supplements, affiliate offers, business-opportunities, load pop-ups on landing pages, even use custom “display” URLs. (Take that, big G!)
With paid media, you may not achieve profitability overnight. It may take some split-testing, but when you find the right combination of offer and traffic, paid media lets you scale up exponentially to an almost unbelievable volume, and even turn advertisers into affiliates, none of which is an option if you are relying on free systems that are on one day, and gone another.
And that’s really the secret to using these resources… scale! You still have to work to get people to buy your stuff, but paid media adds something that’s rarely talked about online, and that’s predictability.
Predictability, consistency, scale. These are the real foundations of online wealth building, and we give you 40+ legitimate online resources that sell traffic in the course, as well as techniques to make the most of them.
Go, learn, profit, and discover how to build your business like the “big-kids” do…
I promise you’ll never look back.

Thanks man, just one question before I buy. I promote niche sites and heard most of the banners out there are for like CPA offers and untargeted offers, clickbank stiuff etc. Can I use this for niche promos like muscle builders and teeth whiteners?
From JM:
Hey Conroy,
There’s a lot of niche traffic available through different PPC companies, especially those who sell banners. There are even domain aggregators like Marchex who have type-in traffic, which is hugely targeted, not to mention responsive. In fact, if you sell a niche product, and you already rank well in Google, you should lock up alternative traffic sources now, before your competition does. BTW, teeth whitening is pretty “general interest” these days, I see those offers everywhere (who doesn’t want whiter teeth;)

Hi Jon, I have been wanting to say hello for about two months now since I saw you come by AffPortal.
Great article. Anything that helps people break their addiction to the heart breaker that Google has turned into is a good thing.
I’m not sure if you know but I’m also a coach at PPC Classroom. I see people everyday that bang their heads against the Google wall trying to turn a profit from their traffic alone. Recently I have been doing monthly webinars on using PPV as a supplemental traffic source for the VIP members. Response has been pretty good even though it’s really outside of the core PPC course it get’s them thinking about new traffic sources.
Anyway, just wanted to pop in and say hello.
Take care,

hello jonathan, i am interested in driving traffic to my sites, which are mainly for Italy and UK/Ireland. Will your course Traffic Evolution teach me how to use resources to drive non-Google paid traffic to my Italian and UK/IRL sites? thanks

Hi Jon:
Another great article… thanks for sharing. I have heard that banners are on the way “out”, it is true?
Thanks
Candace
From JM:
Aloha Candace! It’s funny, while *average* click through rates have decreased over the past decade, the number of banners has skyrocketed. There are probably a billion or more available impressions per day, and with this increase in inventory, prices are down by 75% – 90% or more. I’d say that if anything, banners (and display in general) are an exploding market.
In other words, not at all;)
